Self tanning products are a good way to get the glow you want without exposing your skin to the harmful rays of the sun. There are a few things you can do to make sure your tan lasts a longer time. Continue reading to find out exactly what you need to do.

Good quality is very important when it comes to a self tanner. You cannot just grab any brand and expect it to be the best. Obviously, trying to buy the cheapest one may not work in your favor. It is not really necessary to buy the most expensive either. If you have no clue where to start you have a couple of options. You can talk to a store clerk to see what they recommend, or you can read a few online product reviews. Either of these options will give you a better idea of what to buy. Everyone will not have the same experience with the same product, but you can get a pretty good idea of which product is best by reading through several reviews and getting a few recommendations.

Exfoliate your skin before you put on the tanner. This will assure that the tanner is on top of skin that is not dead and waiting to be sloughed away. Why bother to put on tanner if you are not going to eliminate dead skin first? You will end up with a great tan, and as the skin gradually falls off, it will take some of the beauty out of your tan. When you exfoliate your skin, it will give the tanning lotion access to beautiful, supple skin. The tanner will be much happier adhering to skin that is not going anywhere for a while.

Put moisturizer on your skin prior to applying self tanner. You should be moisturizing your skin regularly anyhow, so this should not be a problem. This is important because tanning lotion will not adhere correctly to skin that is overly dry. There are a few tanning lotions that have moisturizers in the list of ingredients, but that does not mean that you don’t have to moisturize before applying them.

Allow the tan to set before you get up and start moving around a lot. Things like sweat and rain will shorten the life span of a tan. This is why you need to allow it to fully dry before you are out and about. Try sitting around and letting it set for an hour or so before putting on any clothes or doing anything that will cause it to streak and/or run.

If you take the time to prepare your skin properly before you put on self tanner, it will last much longer. You do not want to walk around with a tan that is streaked or uneven. It make seem like a hassle to do all of the things in the article above for the sake of a tan, but you want to make sure that you get the best results.
